Due to an increase in active shooter incidents and the swiftness with which they unfold, we must now prepare ourselves, our co-workers, families and communities. This course will focus on how to be prepared and gain the skills needed to prevent, recognize and increase your ability to survive during an active shooter incident. This course will provide details on what behaviors to look for and who to contact to prevent an active shooter incident. You will also learn how to make educated life-saving decisions regarding which actions to take during an active shooter incident.

Sergeant Jason Hoover with the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office will instruct this course. Sgt. Hoover has 21 years' experience in law enforcement. Before getting into law enforcement, Sgt. Hoover served 4 years in the 2nd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment (Airborne Ranger Infantry), and served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. He has been married to his wife, Jaime, for 24 years and has 4 adult boys and 2 grandchildren.

Deputy Sheriff, Resident Deputy Sheriff, Detective, Supervising Detective of the Drug Task Force, Patrol Sergeant starting in 2015, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) for 7-years, Field Training Officer, Field Training Program Coordinator, Peer Support Team member, Sniper/Observer Team member, Reality Based Training Instructor, Active Shooter Instructor A.L.I.C.E Instructor, Taser Instructor, and Crisis Intervention Training Instructor.
