Join LC SHRM as Washington State Labor & Industries representative Luz Gonzalez-Virgen shares an informative session on the latest developments in Washington employment law and workplace regulations. In this presentation, Luz will provide a practical overview of recent legislative and regulatory updates affecting employers and workers across the state, including changes to wage and hour rules, workplace protections, and other key labor standards enforced by the agency. The Department of Labor & Industries oversees many of Washington’s labor laws, including workplace safety, workers’ compensation, and employment standards that affect businesses statewide.

Designed for employers, HR professionals, and legal practitioners, this session will highlight what these updates mean in practice and how organizations can stay compliant in an evolving regulatory environment. Attendees will gain insight into emerging trends in Washington labor law, learn about recent rulemaking and enforcement priorities, and have the opportunity to better understand how new requirements may impact their workplaces.

Luz has been with the Washington State Department off Labor and Industries (L&I) for the last 19 years. Luz serves as the Employment Standards Access Coordinator and supervises the outreach and access teams within the Employment Standards Program at L&I. Luz is responsible for facilitating access to the services and information provided by the Department.
